When should angina be treated conservatively? Show summary
A patient developed recurring chest pressure after about 10 blocks of walking. His description of the sensation--placing a fist over his chest--is a classic warning sign of a heart problem. Tests didn't reveal any abnormalities, but his cardiologist strongly suspected a blockage. Because the pressure always occurred after the same amount of exercise--a sign of stable angina--the doctor decided to treat the blockage with medications rather than something more aggressive.
